Sharing Photos Without Followers or Algorithms

There’s a growing number of people asking whether there’s an app for sharing photos that doesn’t have likes or followers or algorithms deciding what you see. The answer is yes, and it exists because those features are intentionally removed in private sharing platforms like Swizil.
Here’s what’s explicitly not part of Swizil: follower counts, algorithmic feeds, public discovery features, stranger visibility, engagement metrics that compare your content to others, performance optimization, and invisible or unintended audiences. These aren’t features we’re planning to add later. They’re mechanisms we deliberately chose not to build because removing them creates a fundamentally different experience.
When you take away followers you remove the audience-building dynamic entirely. There’s no pressure to post regularly to “stay visible,” no concern about losing followers, no urge to craft content that appeals to the broadest possible group. When you remove the algorithm you eliminate the optimization game. Nobody’s content is getting prioritized over anyone else’s. There’s no feed to try and win a popularity contest on, and no “best time” to post for maximum reach. When you remove public discovery you remove strangers from the equation completely. Nobody can stumble onto your photos and nobody you didn’t choose can see what you’re sharing… which makes Swizil feel like a much calmer place to share things that matter.
We love the way Swizil still allows likes and comments, but they work completely differently than on social platforms. On Swizil, likes and comments can only come from the friends you’ve intentionally selected to share that collection with. It’s not about performance, it’s about appreciation. When your mom likes a photo of her grandkids, she’s just liking a photo and telling you she saw it and it made her happy. The “like” feature exists as a small gesture of connection, not a metric of success.
Sharing should feel more personal, and so should the way we interact with each others posts - likes that make you smile are back (remember the old days of Facebook?). Swizil is about simplicity, real connection, and sharing more of what matters to you.
